“We’re having a great week making films, creating soundscapes, working with sound producers and DJ,s and scaling broadcast towers! Today the group visited Emley Moor Mast which is our local transmission tower. Our exhibiting artist Haroon Mirza (who’s exhibition our Summer Arts College is themed around) will be doing a project at the mast in the winter months where he will transmit light and sound from the mast back to the gallery.
The group had a very special visit to the mast (which is not publicly accessible) and even got to scale the tower, to the top! It is 1084ft (330m) tall! The young people each got a certificate for completing the ascent. Whilst at the tower the young people recorded sounds and footage for their film and soundscape which will feature in their exhibition in September.”
