Unitas is a national charity that helps young people access, participate and progress in mainstream education and training. We support artistic and cultural activity as a way of engaging young people in mainstream life. When a young person has become detached from learning, art and other creative activities can be a powerful way of getting them back into education, training or employment.
Summer Arts Colleges are intensive educational projects designed to re-engage young people in education, training and employment through the provision of vibrant arts experiences. The initiative enables young people to achieve a recognised qualification, increase their literacy and numeracy skills, enhance their educational engagement and reduce re-offending. One of the striking successes of these projects is the number of Arts Award qualifications achieved – nearly 2000 to date.
